The Better Futures Pre-Accelerator

The Better Futures Pre-Accelerator is the first and largest HBCU-centered pre-accelerator in the country, designed to help early-stage founders turn promising ideas into scalable tech startups.

To date, we have supported more than 1,600 HBCU students and alumni across 80+ HBCUs. Graduates of the Pre-Accelerator have gone on to raise millions in follow-on funding, create jobs, and build innovative solutions across a range of technology sectors.

The Better Futures Pre-Accelerator offers two program tracks: an 8-week Fall cohort and an accelerated 6-week Spring cohort. Throughout both tracks, accepted founders are expected to validate the problem they are solving, test their business concept, and develop a minimum viable product (MVP). Each cohort culminates in a virtual Demo Day, where founders present their pitch decks, receive feedback, and compete for the opportunity to advance to our in-person regional and national pitch competitions.

Throughout the program, founders gain access to resources designed to accelerate their growth, including hands-on curriculum, mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts, networking opportunities with potential partners, and access to non-dilutive startup funding.

The Pre-Accelerator curriculum is delivered through weekly virtual cohort sessions, complemented by additional in-person programming and activities hosted at our partner HBCUs listed below.

Not enrolled at or an alum of one of our partner HBCUs? You can still apply. Our virtual cohort is open to students and alumni from all HBCUs nationwide. Visit the FAQs below to learn more.

Pre-Accelerator applications for both the Fall and Spring programs will open on August 24th and close on September 4th.
